Submission 80

Dear Constitutional Reform Commission

I believe that the right to privacy from invasive technology should be enshrined in the Constitution, especially in this age where it is becoming the norm for citizens, government and private companies to use such technology.
No citizen, while in the privacy of their homes, including within the boundaries of their land (including the airspace above their land), should be spied upon by drones, cameras (both infrared and normal) or listening devices, either by government, police, defence forces or private individuals or companies without their permission. The police/defence forces/government should only be able to use such technology against persons if permission to do so is given by a warrant issued by a judge/magistrate, with just cause such as strong evidence of the committing of a crime by the citizen.

In addition, citizens should have the right to protect themselves from drones on their property by using the following technologies:

  1. Monitoring and alarm Equipment.

  2. Countermeasure Equipment.

  3. Radio Frequency Jammers.

Regards
