TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL COMMISSION

Judicial Independence and the Constitution

This submission is mainly focused on judicial independence. Having taken the steps to move from the status of Constitutional Monarchy to Constitutional Republic, we can frame a constitution that is not born of a negotiation with a former colonial power but that is based totally on our own national spirit, ethos and standards. In this regard we can rely on any source which provides guidance for our own way forward.

I have chosen to refer to the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights as a possible source of sound direction and guidance.
