Dear Commissioners

Please see the article attached. I attempted to make the point at the recently held public hearing that the rights in the constitution could be 'expanded' not in the number of rights but in the reach of those rights if recognition is given to private actions as opposed to state action only.

The average individual does not see the constitutional as being relevant to his or her daily reality and the rights guaranteed their in are seen as esoteric. This is one reason that such

individuals have little or no knowledge of his/ her rights. A good example is the invocation of Christian prayers at public and private events ( as mentioned by a contributor).

My submission therefore is that the freedoms in the constitution should be actionable against the state as well as private entities.
