Sent via form submission from Constitutional Reform Commission

Message: I am certain that, on a website last week, I saw 15th April 2023 as the closing date for submissions and that soon after I read that the Commission would be meeting with some interested parties in May 2023 and with another group in June 2023. i was surprised to hear today that today, 14th April, is the closing date.

I hope you may still consider my recommendations:

  1. no Prime Minister or other authority be allowed to call elections when it suits her/him, rather a fixed date be set for the election of a new government every 5 years;

  2. we devise a system that would ensure there will always be the presence of an "opposition" element in both houses of parliament;

  3. Independence Day and Republic Day (the latter which unfortunately falls on the same day/date as the latter) will be allowed to stand on their own rather than being subsumed under another name like the allegedly mooted Barbados National Day;

  4. Cabinet members be held accountable for lack of maintenance of government buildings and that professional assessments be performed on those properties rather than they be abandoned to be replaced by other buildings, for which the financial outlay beome a drain on our scarce resources.
